It seems like ages ago that we first invited you to attend the August 30, 2012 special EVENT at Fox Run Retirement Community in the Belmont Clubhouse sponsored by our Political Awareness Committee – now is the time!

The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm and last until 9:00pm.  The format for the evening is the following:

Meet Dorian Coston, Democratic Candidate for MI-HD-40!

From the Candidate's Official Bio:

Dorian Coston is running for State Representative in Michigan House District 40, which covers parts of West Bloomfield, Birmingham, Bloomfield Township, and Bloomfield Hills.  Dorian was born the middle child of ten to Cecil and Kathryn Coston. He demonstrated leadership capabilities at an early age, as he served as a captain/squad leader for 12th Precinct Law Enforcement Explorers Program. In addition, Dorian has served as class vice president from middle school to time his in law school.

Dorian has always been dedicated and professional from serving as the Sports Director for Each One Reach One, team captain of a city Champion baseball team, to league a Most Valuable Player award.

Dorian was a member of Mumford High school inaugural M.E.R.I.T. Program (Mumford’s Excellence in Rigorous Intellectual Training.  Dorian earned his BA in Political Science from the University of Arizona, in Tucson, and Masters in Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management.  He's a certified paralegal and works for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office Safe School Initiative.  Dorian is married to Melinda, RN and hospital Administrator, and together they raise their three beautiful daughters in West Bloomfield, MI.  Dorian has experience as a small business owner and teacher.

Dorian is an active member of his community through coaching Girls basketball (Jewish Community Center/ Farmington Recreation) and is the vice-president of the PTA.  He has served as a precinct delegate, vice chair for progressives for Councilman Gil Hill, to graduate of The Center for Progressive Leadership, to Member MI Young Democrats and is truly an advocate for the people.

Dan Farough & Frank Houston at the May Meeting!

Dan Farough, Senator Stabenow’s Campaign Manager, will address the group to discuss the campaign and how our members can get involved.  Frank Houston, OCDP Chair, will then provide an update on Oakland County issues, including the redistricting lawsuits. Frank will also discuss the Michigan Supreme Court race.

Our program will begin 7:30 at the Congregational Church of Birmingham, which is at the corner of Cranbrook Rd and Woodward (1000 Cranbrook Rd. Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304).

Meet Rep. Levin and Kevin Howley at the March 14 Meeting!

Be sure to join us at the Congregational Church of Birmingham, 1000 Cranbrook Road near Woodward in Bloomfield Hills for our next meeting on on Wednesday, March 14th at 7:30pm.

Our featured speaker will be Congressman Sander Levin, ranking member of House Ways and Means, who for the first time will represent part of our BB Dems area due to redistricting will be at our meeting. If he can't come due to a Congressional requirement to stay in D.C. he will be represented by Andy Levin, club member and former candidate for state senate. Andy will focus on the current political situation, the effects of redistricting on our club, and our role in winning a big victory in November. (He will also describe his new renewable energy business.)
