Reminder: Issues of concern to Michigan schools will be discussed with the Birmingham-Bloomfield Democratic Party Club at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 14 at the Congregational Church of Birmingham, 1000 Cranbrook Road near Woodward in Bloomfield Hills.
Our guest Speaker will be Casandra E. Ulbrich, Vice President of the Michigan Board of Education and Director of Advancement at Macomb Community College.
Club President Matthew J. Lund anticipates attendance by members of local boards of education and education advocates, who will respond to the presentation.
Ulbrich, a Rochester Hills Democrat, was elected in 2006 to an eight-year term on the Michigan State Board of Education. Prior to her appointment at Macomb Community College in 2010, she was director of corporate and foundation relations at Wayne State University. Earlier, she was press secretary to U.S. House Democratic Whip David Bonior. She has been a small business owner and now is on the Walter P. Reuther Library Advisory Board .She also is a member of the board of directors of the U-M Alumni Club of Greater Detroit. A Ph.D. candidate at Wayne State Uhiversity, she holds a master's degree in communication from WSU.
The club has invited three guests to serve as respondents to the speaker's presentation. They are Barbara Bonsignore, of Michigan for Public Education; Fern Katz, former member of the Southfield Board of Education, and Mindy Nathan, dean of the TriCounty Educational Center in Berkley.
