Next Meeting: May 8th, hear Sommer Foster & Mark Totten

Two speakers will discuss current issues for members of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Democratic Club when they meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8. The group meets at the Congregational Church of Birmingham, 1000 Cranbrook Road near Woodward in Bloomfield Hills.

Attendees will hear Sommer Foster, field organizer for Equality Michigan, discuss human rights ordinances proposed in many cities. She will be followed by Mark Totten, speaking on the watchdog group he has formed, AGforUS. The grassroots movement contends the state's attorney general, Bill Schuette, has turned against many Michigan residents.

Totten is a law professor at Michigan State University and a potential candidate for the office of attorney general. Foster's organization, "Equality Michigan", is an American civil rights advocacy and anti-violence organization serving lesbian, gay, bisexual and and transgender individuals.

Birmingham-Bloomfield Democratic Club Chairman, Matthew Lund of Birmingham, invites residents who share community interests to attend the meeting. He suggests entering the Congregational Church parking lot via the first left turn off Cranbrook Road west of Woodward.

Further information is available by contacting Lund at 248-359-7300 or through the club's website: www.bbdems.org.
